It was a rainy and cold day back in April 1988 when two close school-mates, Ulrich Leistner and René Nuernberger, decided that the time had come to quit just consuming music and rather start a band themselves. The first song fragments were written by René while sitting in math-class and Ulrich kind of tortured the piano in the music-room of their school whenever possible. Both of them huge Depeche Mode fans since the Mid-Eighties it was only obvious that their project would be an electronic one though it was nearly impossible for them to get their hands on suitable equipment let alone a proper synthesizer in East-Germany. Luckily for them, all things changed in 1989. A year later and after writing a bunch of songs during their military service they united with their friends Tilo Otto and Andreas Golla in 1990 to form Inquisita. These two guys were also fallen for Depeche Mode as well as for harder stuff like Nitzer Ebb and Front 242 which also influenced the Inquisita sound ever since. The bands name Inquisita was taken from an independent music magazine mainly because it sounded great to them and for they thought it would transport the idea of their music pretty well. The idea was to put out own stuff rather than only cover versions of their favorite bands and so they did from the beginning. A few years from then they played gigs in clubs all over the eastern part of Germany as well as at Depeche Mode parties for that´s where their fanbase mainly was. One highlight of that time was a concert during the IGT festival in Chemnitz on 10/11/1991 as support for Project Pitchfork and X-Marks the Pedwalk. A few gigs on the radio and TV brought them further recognition. In Mai 1991 the single No Mercy/Broken Eyes was produced in Magdeburg (limited to a 1000+ pieces).

In 1993 after having some differences within the band Tilo Otto and Andreas Golla left Inquisita in order to pursue their own projects.
A year later in 1994 Ulrich and René decided to end Inquisita the way it had been and Ulrich continued just to write and record songs but with no intention to ever perform live again. But the two guys always stayed in touch. The song "The Wasteland" was recorded in 2010 with the help of Andreas Golla who runs a music studio now.

One day in 2016 and totally unexpected Ulrich got a phone call from Tilo who he hadn´t had contact with for several years asking him to reform Inquisita as a non-live-project and to record and put out some DM- and Front 242 covers as well as some old but remodeled Inquisita songs. Of course his old friend agreed to give it a shot. So their story continues...

Oktober 1991.
